Well here we go again. FedEx brought me a package from Luthiers Mercantile with about 25 pounds of wood. It sure is amazing how much wood is taken away in the process of building a guitar.
The back and sides are going to be made out of a Wenge its an African hardwood that is similar to Brazilian rosewood. The top I decided to go again with the Bearclaw Spruce. I like the figure since you don't see many guitars out there with it. And the price is right. I am just not ready for a 200 dollar German Spruce top yet. The neck is a GIGANTIC block of mahogany. The measurements are 4x5x30. I should be able to get 2 necks out of it.
With that I got the blocks of spruce that will be cut out to make the bracing for the back and top. Also the kerfed lining you glue onto the sides to hold the top and back on. Oh yeah a VERY Macassar Ebony fingerboard with light streaking. Its a VERY nice piece of wood. I hope I don't botch it up ! So far running total for this project is 300 bucks. But not really the mahogany block makes 2 necks and was 90 bucks, so half that is 45. 300 minus 45 is 255 bucks.
